What are things that all people need to have to be fulfilled? Human Rights – and this tea towel!

This tea towel echoes the style of the original published Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris in 1948. The Declaration consists of 30 articles (summarised on this tea towel summarised in the interests of brevity) such as "the right to equality" and "freedom from discrimination". Although they are not considered legally binding, the rights have been incorporated into various international treaties, human rights instruments, and national constitutions. Additionally, some legal experts have argued that because countries have constantly invoked the Declaration for more than 50 years, it has become binding as a part of customary international law. The Declaration was also the first step in the process of formulating the International Bill of Human Rights, which was completed in 1966, and came into force in 1976.

Is freedom from drying the dishes a human right? Probably not, but we sure wish it were…

Half Panama unbleached cotton (heavy weight, textured finish). Stitched on all four sides. Includes hanging loop. Measures approximately 19in x 27.5in. Machine wash at 110 degrees max. We recommend that before you use your tea towel for the first time you wash it at least once to soften up the material and make it more absorbent for drying dishes. Please note size can vary slightly.

    Teatowel: Human Rights

Posted by J Cool on Feb 5th 2025

At this specific time, what is better than have a reminder of the great document stewarded by Eleanor Roosevelt -- the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As our governments are throwing international law and human rights out the window with egregious acts globally -- these words, these well-thought out and indelible truths are right here on your kitchen towel -- EXCELLENT GIFT for those who know and remember and especially for those who do not!
