All women want to be treated as equals and have a say in their world! 100 years ago women in the US had been engaged in an epic struggle for voting rights. And finally, on the 26th of August 1920 when the 19th Amendment was certified by the US Secretary of State, the first women were granted the right to cast a ballot. Not all women, admittedly, but it was a start!
This yard sign is based on a poster produced in the same year, designed to be placed in a window so that passers-by would know that the resident had exercised her new-found right and registered to vote. The hope was that it would encourage others to do the same – and it worked! On November 2 the same year, more than 8 million women in the US assumed their responsibility of citizenship and voted in elections for the first time.
So in another crucial election year, why not tell everyone that the women in your household intend to exercise their voting rights too?
